Every year I am challenged by our awesome speakers, and love reconnecting with Presbyterian pastoral colleagues. I have formed deep bonds of support and accountability with friends of long-standing, and I’ve been blessed by newer friendships each year at the conference. And this conference is fun!
WCPPC is not like other conferences.
Other conferences have their place, and succeed at
- Featuring high powered speakers (who you don’t get to personally talk to)
- Deep contemplation and spiritual direction
- Lobbying for issues and votes in various denominational structures
Instead, at WCPPC we simply gather each year around the centrality of Jesus Christ and His Word and renew our connection to others called by God to pastoral ministry in the Presbyterian family.
Our goal is to make your first “West Coast” experience an easy-entry and deeply connected one.
We’d love to have you with us. Newer folks have told me three WCPPC benefits stand out for them.
- The good humored banter between each other. We take the Lord and our commitment as pastors seriously… but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Think of the “table talk” Martin Luther enjoyed in his home…and you get an idea of the friendly tone of the week.
- Theological reflection that is deep and interactive. Our speakers are foremost theologians and practitioners. Their presentations are followed by question/answer times that help us “unpack” what we’ve heard. And they stay with us for the entire week so we build a relationship with them. For one week, we are the “company of pastors” that John Calvin designed in Geneva.
- The peace and quiet of the Coastal Redwood groves that run through Mount Hermon Camp. You can find solitude and soak up the sounds of the forest. Every afternoon is free so you can take a nap, take a walk, go to Santa Cruz beach and Boardwalk, talk with a new friend, swim in the pool, play basketball or golf…
If this sounds good to you – come and join us April 8-12, 2013. I look forward to meeting you.
